Every time I have a day off work I always wake up desperate for somewhat good weather, so I can hop on the bike and head off on an adventure around the local country lanes for a few hours.
Unfortunately, the last few days I have been waking up with a progressively more disgusting cold, which has got worse and worse with each commute to and from work throughout the week. (Even my thickest buff can do nothing to keep me from gulping down the freezing cold air apparently!)
Being the stubborn bastard I am, I decided that I would go for a short spin around the seafront today regardless of how rough I was feeling, because let’s face it, cycling always makes everything better!
I had to pop out first to do a few errands, and found that the cold air instantly had my eyes and nose streaming with bodily fluids, my head pounding, and my throat felt like I had a small hedgehog hibernating about halfway down.
I took this as a sign that I should perhaps hold off on the ride, at least until I was able to be outside and see more than just vague shapes and colours through streaming eyes.
Beaten by this disgusting cold, and even colder weather, I opted for the next best thing to going out for a ride and ‘playing bikes’; ogling at other peoples bikes!
I thought I’d share with you a few favourites which I found today.
1: The first is Ben Smith’s Eddy Merckx Motorola MX Leader. Besides the way this bike looks, it’s kitted out with almost all Shimano Dura Ace 7400 components and I certainly wouldn’t say no to taking it for a spin or two!
2: Next is this delicious little custom single speed from Coast Cycles. As much as I believe all single speed bikes that are used for anything but track racing could be improved tenfold by some gears, this bike caught my eye. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a nice brown Brooks saddle!
3: This is the last one I will post today, however I also love seeing gorgeous touring bikes such as this Gunnar. The colours, the bags, the saddle, even the bell! It’s exactly the sort of bike that makes me think, ‘Hmm, maybe I could do with just one more bike in the fleet…’, but don’t tell the missus!
I think that’s enough drooling over nice bikes for today, but feel free to share some of your favourite bike porn with me in the comments below or on twitter!
